Homeless in DC - Conclusion
The final update from C-
For those of you who were not able to make
it to Capitol Lounge on Saturday night, I wanted to provide a brief
recap and let you know that J did indeed make it through the week.
Since the last update there were a few interesting stories. Here is a brief recap.
v Thursday night, while sleeping in front of the Theodore Roosevelt Federal Building, J was startled when three young adults came running through the hedges looking for a quiet place to relieve themselves. He defended his bench by pulling out his pepper spray but never had a need to fire it at anyone. One of the intruders did make a "Zoolander" reference to J telling him to "Derelick my b@lls."
v Friday J set up his pillow and blanket just outside the security fence of the mall, allowing him to listen to some music and see all of the people. His highlight of the week came when he met up with his friends who brought him an order of TGI Friday's chicken wings. He did have to fend off other homeless people while eating his wings in the park, but it was a small price to pay for a warm meal.
v Storms, sprinklers and security guards kept J moving around pretty much all of Friday night.
v Saturday was largely spent taking a victory lap past all of the places he slept throughout the week. As an added bonus, college basketball summer league games started Saturday at Georgetown University so J was able to catch a game and check out some of the incoming George Mason recruits. Yes, summer league games have free admission.
v Finally, Saturday night J arrived to Capitol Lounge around 10:30 wearing his cleanest white shirt and his signature Pikachu backpack. A hamburger, a cold beer and about 40 friends greeted him as he made his way in to the bar. His week even featured a surprise ending that not even a Hollywood script writer could have come up with. I'll, however, leave it a mystery except for those who made it out to greet him and witness it first hand.
Thanks to everyone who followed along this week and especially to all of you who made it out Saturday night. I'm not sure we'll ever top this bet yet something tells me we'll someday give it a try.
So there, you have it, our epic tale comes to a close. And yes, the surprise ending is so insane that if I wrote about it, you would instantly think that this whole story is bullshit so I'm just going to leave it a mystery as well.
